Can I receive 100% of my rental security deposit back after a certain amount of time?

We've been renters for the past 12 years in the same place. I've heard that after a certain amount of time, you are guaranteed 100% of your security deposit back, no matter the scuffs, stains, nail holes, dirt, etc. Can anyone confirm that this is true? I'm wondering how much, if any, serious cleaning and repairs I need to do before we move out. Thanks!|||Highly doubtful. After 12 years, they'll find TONS of reasons to keep it.|||If that were the case it would be in your lease. |||I believe most states leases have clauses that allow for "reasonable wear and tear." After 12 years almost anything is reasonable lol. You may still be charged for damages, however, for large holes in the wall, excessive dirt (if you don't clean when you move out) or things of that nature, so I would still do minor repairs and clean thoroughly.|||What you have been told is incorrect. No matter how long you live in premises, you are responsible for the costs of damages caused, other than 'normal wear and tear'. Dirt, scuffs, nail holes and the like are NOT normal wear and tear.

Normal wear and tear is that which occurs from simply using the products in the house, such as fading of the wall paint, and traffic wear patterns on the flooring/carpeting. However, if you stain the carpeting or tear the vinyl flooring, that is considered damage.
