Paul invested $5000 in a time deposit. What interest will he earn for 1 year if the interest rate is 6.5%?

There are 850 Douglas fir and ponderosa pines trees in a section of forest bought by Sawz Logging Co. The company paid an average of $300 for each Douglas fir and $225 for each ponderosa tree. If the company paid $217,500 for the trees, how many of each kind did the company buy?

A common mistake when solving equation is the following:

The equation: 2(x-2)=x+3

First step in solving: 2x-2=x+3

Write a clear explanation of what error has been made. What could be done to avoid this error?|||5000 x 1.065 = 5 325 (DEPOSIT + INTEREST)|||the first question does not specify how it interest is compounded

so the best answer might not be the correct one.

|||ummmmmm eight!!|||5000 X 0.065 = Answer

325 = Answer|||5000*.065=$325 interest

300x+225(850-x)=217500

300x+191250-225x=217500

75x=26250

x=350 douglas firs

500 ponderosa pines

the mistake is that the 2 was not distributed to the -2 in parantheses, to prevent this you can draw lines from the 2 to the x and the -2 to be sure you distribute completely|||1) $5000 * .065/yr * 1 year = $325

2) d + p = 850

300d + 225p = 217500

300d +225(850 - d) = 217500

300d -225d = 217500 - 850*225

75d = 26250

d = 350

p = 500

Check

300*350 + 225*500 = 217500

3) 2(x-2) = x+3

To take the (x-2) out of parentheses, multiply both terms by 2, so that 2(x-2) = 2x-4 NOT 2x-2|||simple interest compounded monthly....

6.5% / 12 = .5416% (over twelve months)

$5000 + .5416% = 5027.08 (1 mo.)

$5027.08 + .5416% = 5054.31 (2 mo.)

$5054.08 + .5416% = 5081.45 (3 mo.)

$5081.45 + .5416% = 5108.97 (4 mo.)

$5136.64 (5 mo.)

5164.46 (6 mo.)

5192.43 (7 mo.)

5220.55 (8 mo.)

5248.82 (9 mo.)

5277.25 (10 mo.)
