California- Is there a certain amount of time that a landlord has to deposit your rent check? Or not?

My landlord still has not deposited my rent check which was due on the 1st, and it is now the 19th. Can I stop payment on it or anything like that if it is not deposited over a certain amount of time?|||Stopping payment on it will cost you money and he will treat it as if you did not pay your rent on time.

Why does it matter how long it takes him to deposit it? You can't just say, well, I gave him the check and he took a long time to deposit it, so I don't have to pay my rent, if that is what you're getting at.|||Do not make a stop payment unless your landlord call you and tell you the check was lost. If you make a stop payment it can work against you in the future, he an even evict you if he is asshole. Just wait maybe he is out of town? The check is good for 6 months.|||No. If you put a stop payment on the check and your landlord tries to deposit it but it gets rejected, then he can go after you for the amount of the rent, late charges, and bank fees. Your responsibility is to pay the rent. If he chooses not to deposit the check, that's his problem. If you're lucky, maybe he will forget and the check will never be cashed. I believe that the general policy for banks is that they will honor the check for up to one year from the date on the check.|||A personal is usually only good for six months so they would need to deposit it before then; Other than that there is no rule - just a matter of courtesy on their part.
