How to deal with landlord and broker who are not ready to return full amount of security deposit on time?

i have friend in pune facing problem getting back their full amount of security deposit from the landlord can any one suggest a way to help..............|||If their attitude is to cheat you, then only police complaint can help.|||It depends on who changes their mind. If the landlord decides not to rent to the prospective tenant, then the deposit should be refunded in full. If the prospective tenant changes their mind, then usually the landlord may keep the some or all of the deposit, up to the extent they are damaged by the tenant's breach of the agreement. The landlord should make a good faith attempt to minimize their damages by locating another tenant as quickly as possible.|||I don't know how it works in India - but here in the US no landlord is ever legally required to refund the deposit the second the tenant demands it. We have 14-45 days depending on state to refund any money due or to send a list of charges if there is no refund. No tenant can take any legal action until that time has passed %26amp; the landlord has done nothing.

You need to look up your local laws to see if you guys have a similar required time frame.|||What does "pune" mean ???

Landlord must return your deposit with mandated time. If not, they have 30 days to send you itemized accounting of damages.|||lawyer
